Happy Friday from Brenda Miller Family Wealth!
We sincerely hope everyone had a fun, safe, and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend. If your house is like our house, you will need a vacation after the Thanksgiving weekend. Although Brenda’s house was crazy and busy with a houseful of family, fun was had by all.
As of October 1st, 2025, the US Federal Government has shut down after Congress failed to pass funding legislation for the 2026 fiscal year. While headlines may sound concerning, history shows that shutdowns tend to have minimal long-term effects on the economy or financial markets. Essential services such as Security, national defense, and air travel continue to operate, though some agencies face temporary closure and delays in data reporting. Short-term market fluctuations are possible but past shutdowns have generally been followed by quick recoveries once funding is restored.
The latest news includes Canada threatening to sue Stellantis, Canada and the U.S. resuming trade negotiations, the U.S. proposing a trade truce with China, and 30% of Nobel laureates in science being immigrants.
Have a good weekend,
Brenda, Betina, Matty, Taylor, and Max
