Happy Friday from Brenda Miller Family Wealth!

As of yesterday, March 20th, Spring has begun and Winter is finally over! It might not feel like it for everyone, though: Depending on where you live, you may still be looking at a snowfall forecast this weekend.

The biggest news since we last wrote is the swearing-in of Mark Carney as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada, succeeding Justin Trudeau. It is expected this Sunday he will announce a snap federal election, with voting anticipated to occur on April 28th. All the major parties are already booking their campaigns, which will no doubt focus heavily on the ongoing trade war with the United States.

Other major new stories this week include China initiating tariffs on Canada, in retaliation for tariffs imposed on Chinese Electric Vehicles last year. The tariffs target agricultural and food products and are expected to hit canola farmers particularly hard, Russia and Ukraine agreeing to a “limited ceasefire”, and major unrest has broken out in Turkey following the detention of a top politician.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Brenda, Betina, Matty, and Taylor
