Happy Friday from BMWM!

This morning, Brenda, Betina, and Matty attended a breakfast at Canadian Tire Mosport hosted by CBOT (The Clarington Board of Trade).  We had a chance to spend time with our RBC Commercial partners Kendra Doner and Heather Dunn.  We also had the privilege of meeting Canadian figure skater, three-time World champion, two-time Olympic silver medalist, and seven-time Canadian champion Elvis Stojko.  Elvis shared his story of redefining himself from an Olympic skater to his real and current self.  For many years, he believed winning was the end goal… Now he believes how you get there is really what we should focus on.  The four years of preparation is more important than the very short 4 and a half minutes spent on the long program.  Define your goals and enjoy the journey.

The Current Account (click here to read) covers thousands of Canada’s federal public workers on strike, Galen Weston stepping down as President of Loblaws, Canada’s inflation rate cooling rapidly into March, and Apple setting its sights on India with the first retail store in the country.

News for this week includes the federal public workers’ strike halting passport processing for all but Canadians living abroad or experiencing humanitarian or emergency situations. Roughly 300 Service Canada locations will be open and they’ll be limited to processing Old Age Security, Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan payments and Social Insurance numbers. About 18% of striking staff at the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) aren’t expected to disrupt trade at borders though striking port workers could cause supply chain issues. And though Canada Revenue Agency workers also walked off the job, Canadians will still have to file tax returns by May 1.

Taylor’s word of the week is lackadaisical, meaning “something or someone lacking in life, spirit, or zest”. For example, a teacher may not approve of a student’s lackadaisical approach to their homework.

Have a nice weekend,
