Happy Friday and Happy Family Day from BMWM!
Please remember this coming week is the deadline for any last minute RRSP contributions.
The Current Account (click here to read) covers John Tory stepping down today as Toronto’s mayor, China imposing sanctions on the two biggest American defense contractors, residents in Ohio demanding answers after a train loaded with hazardous chemicals derailed, American millionaires moving out, and American actress Raquel Welch passing away at age 82.
If you’ve been following the ongoing situation, China has levelled its own balloon accusation at the U.S. The country’s foreign ministry said more than 10 American high-altitude balloons illegally flew through Chinese airspace without permission last year. Washington immediately dismissed the allegations as “scrambling to do damage control.” But the finger pointing and tension between the two superpowers shows no sign of letting up. U.S. fighter planes shot down three unidentified flying objects over North America this weekend—including one over Canada’s Yukon Territory. The U.S. hasn't tied these objects to any country yet. It identified a balloon down off South Carolina on February 4th as a Chinese “spy balloon.”
Taylor’s word of the week is onomatopoeia, meaning “the formation of a word from a sound associated with what it is named.” For example, pitter-patter.
Have a safe and relaxing long weekend,
Brenda, Taylor, & Matty
