Last week, we were happy to host the Silver Sherpa, CEO and Co-founder, Sue Hyatt, and Jeanette Bock for a shocking reality check! It is truly amazing what we don’t know and the health care maze is no exception.

 

Sue spent over an hour chatting with myself and clients on some of the stumbling blocks many of us may face, either ourselves or navigating for a loved one. Some key takeaways included coordination of information across medical professionals is limited, seeking out one pharmacist that can capture all drugs and supplements in one place for easy hospital access as well as keeping a log of your own can go a long way to lessen negative side effects and misuse of prescribed medications.

 

It was surprising to learn that the average time spent caring for a parent was 6.3 years with an average of 10 hours/week. This kind of time commitment is scary, on several levels, emotionally, mentally and physically. I believe we were all relieved that services exist to help like the Silver Sherpa. Organizing your house, from the financial perspective, with a financial plan, ideally, an income plan, and an estate plan is only one part.
