On May 16th I hosted my first Women & Wealth event at Cutten Fields. I was so pleased with everyone’s enthusiasm and participation! Below are my introductory remarks and please visit Snapd for the event photos online. We should be in the June issue as well. I have so many ideas already for next year but I’m so happy with the direction the conversation took and all the great insights from the panel.
Hello everyone. Thank you so much for coming out tonight to my first Women and Wealth event.
My name is Heather LeBar and I’m an investment advisor and financial planner at RBC Dominion Securities.
We’re here tonight because I had an idea which I then shared with some women that I admire and respect. They supported me and encouraged me and told me that this is something that other women would find valuable. I hope tonight I can pay their support and encouragement forward.
Two of the things I’m devoted to in life: empowering women on every level and helping people plan their financial futures through planning and investing. So I’ll ask:
Can women ever be meaningfully equal if they aren’t financially empowered?
I think that if women felt more comfortable talking about money we would have more of it and cultural and political life would shift accordingly – that’s the power of the purse.
Tonight isn’t about giving you all the answers. It’s about talking to each other and sharing what we know.
In preparation for the discussion panel I used a variety of resources, many of which I’m sharing with you below.
