Previously, Ali also worked for the International Finance Corporation, the private investment arm of the United Nations' World Bank agency. Here he helped lead private equity investments in 11 different emerging markets, including an investment in Liberia's cocoa industry, which played a notable part in the country's post-Ebola recovery efforts.

He lives with his wife in Toronto, and in his downtime can be found in the crossfit gym, volunteering at the Ontario Vipassana Meditation Centre, or supporting the Toronto Raptors.
