Kingston branch runs bocce ball fundraiser for Winchester District Memorial Hospital Foundation in support of their colleague's daughter who received chemotherapy at WDMH

The RBC work culture is one where friends helping friends is a standard and that's what Jennifer Lemieux, VP & Branch Manager, exemplified when she contacted Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) Foundation to discuss her fundraiser intentions for the WDMH cancer program.

“My colleague Wendy McFaul has a daughter who received chemotherapy treatments at the hospital,” explains Jennifer. “Her name is Erin and she spoke very highly of the staff in WDMH’s Chemotherapy Unit. We wanted to do something for chemo patients and the staff who support them.”

To take action, Jennifer organized a "Bocce for Boobies" tournament at her home in Kingston that included a BBQ and pool party. Friends, family and co-workers participated, and other business associates and corporations also made donations. She raised a total of $18,995!

The money was used to support staff in purchasing two new portable work stations, and an iPod and speaker to help patients relax during their treatments. The balance of the funds raised was used to create the new patient compassionate care fund.

Cindy Peters, Manager of Direct Mail and Events spoke on how grateful the hospital is when the community supports patients during their cancer journey. "Many people do not realize that the provincial government does not fund medical equipment for hospitals, so these donations make a big difference.”

It's amazing what can come out of bocce ball and a strong RBC community.
