Friday, March 8th marks International Women's Day.  This year's theme is Better the balance, better the world.  Balance is not just a women's issue it is a business issue and is essential for businesses, economies and communities to thrive. In this spirit we wanted to share some interesting articles that reflect on some of the opportunities and challenges women face.

Women are starting up businesses at a rapid rate. In the US, women are majority owners of 9.9 million US businesses, generating US $1.4 trillion in sales.  These 2 articles center around women and entrepreneurship:

Starting a business? How to plan for success as an entrepreneur

SheEO embraces radical generosity for female entrepreneurs

We recently wrote a blog on the future of employment entitled Are Canada's youth prepared for the workplaces of the future which shares research done by RBC.  RBC Economics expanded on this research in their report: Advantage women: How an automated future could play to women's strengths.  This article discusses how women's jobs face a higher risk from automation while also finding themselves better positioned than men for the jobs of the future.

Globally, women control 30% of all wealth controlled by individuals or families in 2015 and this number is growing.  RBC, in coordination with The Economist Intelligence Unit, have found that women today are placing a greater importance on helping the world at large.  This article illustrates More wealth, More impact: How women at the highest levels of wealth help society

Supporting women and families to succeed is central to what we do at Hayes Vickers Private Wealth - Happy International Women's day to all the women in our lives who inspire us!
